April is the National month of Walking. 10,000 steps per day is the beacon for a person to stay healthy. There are many free pedometer apps available on IPhone. Apart from just counting your steps, some of the apps could measure and calculate your pace, calories burnt, trend, play music based on activity level etc.
I was surprised to learn that my daily activities lead me to an average of 5k steps alone each day. I downloaded a few app to try/measure my activity levels.
Fitibit Flex was a good one except that you have to invest around $100 to buy the tiny chip that will measure your activity. Also, I went through some reviews that you better wait for the next edition of Flex as it is their first release of its kind. Also, it is easy to lose as it is a tiny chip and can fall off from the hand band.
I tried the Runtastic pedometer which is great for counting steps but I had to invest $4 to buy the Runtastic running app. However, I was not really satisfied with it. I have to click on start/stop everytime I begin/pause an activity. The only good feature is it plays music automatically based on your predefined playlist for different activity levels. What I wanted is a free app that will count my steps, detect my activity and measure activities as well. Argus is one such free app that I finally continued using since a month.
I hope you enjoy the Spring weather warming up and take a walk!
