Julie

She resembled a tiny fur ball

Waited long for the owner's call

Onto her feet hearing the praises for the Lord

Wagging tail, slobbering tongue.

Holding tight the delightful prize in its mouth

Off to a corner, away from prying eyes

to chew it hard and shred to pieces

Within seconds of crackling mastication

Sharp of nose, keen of eye

but the eyes filled with longing and love

That were immutable over all her earthly years

Even as her body grew old and decayed.

Julie stays forever in our memories

As an archetype of loyalty and affection

And of indomitable courage in the face of suffering.

So long Julie and farewell.

In memory of Julie (1999 - 2009)
